Coloured oasis
spilling out onto the street,
defying winter.

Amber theatre:
flames dance and bow gracefully.
Ballet in cold breeze.

The sun tries to burn
holes in a monochrome day.
Sinks without success.

The new colour spreads
as damp creeps in crevices,
only green ‘til Spring

Feeling ill at ease
as I eat chicken salad
under scornful eyes

(from a painting by Suzanne Clark)
Another day dies.
Life goes on behind closed doors
as I stand outside.

White bread, lava spread
Fat strands glow luminously
Just one more slice then

Ice maiden Wednesday
lies beneath lace canopy,
sun’s rays unheeded
